CATALIST, SUNY ULSTER'S ONLINE CATALOG
Catalist, SUNY Ulster's Online Catalog, provides quick and easy access to the library book and periodical collections. The software will search our holdings in a matter of seconds using the standard author, title, and subject searches, as well as several other types of searches and search-type combinations. In addition, you can search available contents notes to assist in locating individual plays, short stories, or essays.
Request assistance from a Reference Librarian if you would like further help in forming a search strategy.

CIRCULATION
Regular circulating materials may be borrowed for 21 days. These items are renewable by phone or in person. The Reference Collection and Periodicals are for use in the library only, as are most Reserve items. Students must present a current Ulster County Community College SUNYCard in order to check out materials (including Reserves). All material must be returned by the end of each semester in order to receive grades and transcripts.
DESCRIPTION OF COLLECTIONS
There are more than 80,000 books in the library's collection. They are shelved on the second and third levels and are organized by the Dewey Decimal Classification scheme. The Special Collections Room houses material related to the history of Ulster County and the Hudson Valley. The McNaughton Collection of new and best-selling fiction and non-fiction titles is found in the lobby. The library currently subscribes to a broad range of print periodicals, with extensive back files for numerous titles in microform.
The Reference Collection on the main floor includes indexes, abstracts, and encyclopedias in both print and electronic formats, as well as dictionaries, bibliographies, atlases, directories, handbooks, and guides which have the prefix REF before the call number.
ELECTRONIC SERVICES
The Library staff is committed to providing access to the constantly increasing amount of information available in electronic formats, including the wealth of resources and services available over the Internet. To support that commitment the library subscribes to a variety of on-line databases and indexes which provide citations to articles or full-text articles. These databases or indexes range from general periodical indexes to subject-specific databases for nursing, the arts, and business. A Reference Librarian is always available to assist in selecting the most appropriate resource if needed.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN (ILL)
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service is provided to the college's students, faculty, and staff to obtain items not available in our own collections.
Interlibrary Loan requests can be submitted electronically by completing the Electronic Interlibrary Loan Form. This service, available to current SUNY Ulster students, faculty and staff, is especially useful to distance students who do not attend classes on the Stone Ridge Campus.
PHOTOCOPYING
Vendacards may be purchased from the Vendacard unit in the rear of the library reference area. A Vendacard allows you to make copies on a photocopier for 10 cents instead of 15 cents. When you receive your Vendacard you must add value to the card in order to use it. You can do this at any of the three photcopiers by putting money ($5 bills, $ 1 bills, or coins) into the copier while your card is in the card slot.
A Microform machine is available in the Periodicals area for both reading and printing from both microfiche or microfilm. There is no charge for printing on this machine.
REFERENCE SERVICES
Librarians at the Reference Desk can help analyze your information needs and locate relevant materials. They can help you use online resources such as Catalist, SUNY Ulster's online catalog and the Expanded Academic ASAP database as well as materials in the General and Reference Collections. They will also schedule appointments to assist you with your research needs.
Brief factual questions can be submitted electronically by completing the Electronic Reference Question Form. This method of working with a Reference Librarian is especially useful for Ulster students taking courses at the Business Resource Center or through the SUNY Learning Network. The Electronic Reference Service is only available to current Ulster students, faculty and staff.
RESERVES
These materials are selected by faculty as supplemental and/or required reading for classes. Request items from the Circulation/Reserves Desk using the instructor's last name and course number. They must be checked out with a valid SUNYCard.
