SUNY Ulster - Electronic Reference Service

Electronic Reference Service

SUNY Ulster Reference Librarians can only provide this electronic assistance to current SUNY Ulster students, faculty and staff, via e-mail. Therefore, you must have an e-mail account to make use of this service.

This service is intended for a brief, specific question, when you do not have the resources at hand to look it up. We will respond ordinarily within 24 hours [excluding weekends & holidays].

Examples of appropriate type questions are:

  • What is the address/phone number of (name person or organization)?
  • Do you have the book (title)? [if you can't access Catalist]
  • Who is the head of New York State's Dept of Insurance and how can s/he be contacted?

Inappropriate type questions are:

  • What is the current status of the Endangered Species Act, and what is listed?
  • Who are the best surgeons in New York to perform organ transplants?
  • What do you have on the history of the women's movement?

If your question falls into the appropriate category use the link below to send your e-mail request. Include your name, e-mail address and reference question. College status will be verified using the campus information database.

If your question is more complicated (like the ones in the second group) come into the library and discuss your research project with the librarian at the reference desk. They will assist you in using the many resources available in the library, both paper and electronic.
