abroad.
You've completed Step One, which was finding the perfect Study
Abroad Program.
Now you're ready for Step Two, how are you going to pay for it?
Don't despair! We want to help!
First, we keep the cost of our programs as low as possible, and then we also offer scholarships.
This page lists some of the scholarships and aid programs available to you. Check them out, and if you need further assistance or advice, contact us at the office listed below.
Scholarships and Aid Programs
THE BENJAMIN A. GILMAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Sponsor: The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State
Administered by: Institute of International Education (IIE)
Description: The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program provides awards for study abroad, for students who are U.S. citizens and receiving federal need based financial aid under Title IV. (Title IV student financial aid includes Pell Grants, Federal Work study, Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans, and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants.)
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is intended to reduce the financial barriers to study abroad by providing assistance to undergraduates in 2 year and 4 year schools who demonstrate financial need.
Selection Criteria: Priority consideration for awards will be given to applicants of academic merit who receive Federal Pell Grants under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
Award Amounts: Awards range from (a maximum of) $3,000 for a summer program to $5,000 for a semester or academic year study abroad program.

FREEMAN - ASIA SCHOLARSHIPS
Sponsor: The Freeman Foundation
Administered by: Institute of International Education (IIE)
Description: The primary goal of the Freeman - ASIA Program is to increase the number of American undergraduates who study in East and South East Asia. Awardees will be expected to share their experiences with their home campus to encourage study abroad by others and to spread understanding of Asia in their home communities.
Award Amounts: Freeman - ASIA award benefits are determined by the length of the program (minimum of 4 weeks).

ROTARY AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Administered by: The Rotary Foundation
Description: Established in 1947, the Rotary Foundation's oldest and best known program is the Ambassadorial Scholarship.
Types of Rotary Scholarships and Award Amounts: The Rotary offers several types of scholarships for study overseas by undergraduates at American colleges and universities.

Academic Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide funding for one academic year of study in another country. The award is intended to help cover round trip transportation, tuition, fees, room and board and some educational supplies up to $25,000 U.S. dollars. Academic year scholarships are the most common type of scholarship offered by Rotary.

Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships are for either three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country. The award provides funds to cover round trip transportation, language training expenses, and homestay living arrangements (up to $12,000 for three months and $19,000 for six months respectively).

U.S. Department of Education Student Guide

This is the most comprehensive resource on student financial aid from the U.S. Department of Education. Grants, loans, and work study are the three major forms of student financial aid available through the Department's Student Financial assistance Office.

The ISLP, developed by the International Education Finance Corporation (IEFC), offers Stafford and alternative loan programs. ISLP loans are funded by the Bank of Boston and Educaid and are guaranteed by the Educational Resources Institute.
