SUNY Ulster Continuing Education Health Sciences Instructor - PT

Part-time on a contracted basis

Under 17.5 hours per week

Position Summary:

SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for a Health Sciences Instructor for our Continuing Education department. 

Under the general supervision of the Program Coordinator, the Health Sciences instructor will provide instruction, lectures, labs and assignments relating to the Health Science courses offered by the Workforce division of the college. Multiple candidates may be selected based on enrollment numbers. Candidates should meet the minimum job requirements as specified below and be willing to teach in a variety of formats (classroom, online, hybrid).  Those currently working or instructing in the Healthcare field are highly desirable.  Candidates may apply for one or more of instructional assignments: EKG Technician, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Administrative Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • A commitment to meet during each scheduled class session and to teach or conduct learning exercises for the entire time period.
  • Accurately keep required class records on attendance and grading and submit when required.
  • Comply with all institutional and departmental policies, procedures and deadlines.
  • Give careful attention to all departmental and administrative communications by checking SUNY Ulster email frequently.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.  Experience in field may be substituted at the department’s discretion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to active learning and innovative teaching
  • Strong interest in teaching, mentoring, and working with students
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and technology skills

And

  • Commitment to community college goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities; personal qualities to work effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment; awareness of and commitment to the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students with diverse abilities and interests.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching experience in the community college setting.
  • Experience with the Brightspace course management system.

Salary: $ 50.00 per instructional hour

BPI Instructor/Proctor

Position Summary

SUNY Ulster seeks to hire a part time as needed BPI Instructor/Proctor.  Applicants may apply for one or the other or both positions.

Examples of Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to do the following:

  • BPI Instructor: Teach BPI Building Analyst and BPI Envelope Professional courses.  These courses are credit bearing and non-credit bearing.
  • BPI Proctor: Proctor BPI Building Analyst Field and BPI Envelope Professional Field exams

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in sustainability or closely-related technology field.
  • Teaching experience in an area of energy efficiency. 
  • Industry experience in an area of energy efficiency.
  • BPI Certification

Desirable Qualifications for Instructor Position

  • A master’s degree in energy efficiency or closely-related technology field.
  • A minimum of 30 credit hours of community college teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching with Blackboard or comparable online learning management system.

Personal and Professional Qualities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • An openness to continuing growth, professional development, and the acquisition of appropriate certifications in energy efficiency.
  • A strong commitment to the community college goals and objectives of providing quality courses and working effectively and with sensitivity in a multicultural environment with an awareness of, and commitment to, the needs of non-traditional and/or re-entry students having diverse abilities and interests.
