The purpose of this non-credit course is to prepare incoming students, primarily in the New Start for Women program, to have the basic computer skills needed for college level learning in the SUNY Ulster Business & Professional Studies Program, specifically the General Management Certificate. This is accomplished through gaining an understanding of the components of a computer, hardware, software and internet based applications and then practice to increase and master skill levels. This course prepares students with inadequate computer skills to be ready to undertake Bus 171, 272 as well as ACC 101 where basic computer skills are required. Learning Outcomes - at the end of the course students will be able to: Demonstrate basic computer skills necessary to be successful in Business and other college courses including: -start up and shut down the computer -navigate the operating system and start applications -perform basic file and desktop organization and management -perform simple word processing and spreadsheet entry (to be continued in BUS 171) -print documents -send, receive and manage emails -navigate the Internet -utilize increased awareness of Internet security and safety
